How has your week been so far?
​
My sleeping schedule has been a little wonky as of late. I passed out on the couch last night and woke up at 3 am and couldn't go back to sleep. I was just finally heading to bed in the wee hours of the morning when I looked out my back window and saw the most gorgeous sky. A mix of purple and red mixed with gold. It was breathtaking!
​
When I ran to see what the view looked looked my front window, I couldn't believe it! It was even more stunning if you can believe. The sky was pink and there was a rainbow! I wanted to run outside and grab a photo but it was too cold just to dash out on the lawn so I decided to get dressed and run down to the lake to try to catch the sunrise.
​
Of course, the sun was about to come up in three minutes and I can't get dressed that fast or drive like a crazy person so of course I missed it. They also closed the gates to the parking lot by the beach so I had to walk down a long road to get to the beach. Ugh. I miss the days of having my "VIP parking."
​
By the time I made my way down to the beach, the clouds had rolled in and it had started to rain. I watched with envy as I crossed paths with a few smug looking photographers holding their long lensed cameras, knowing they had just captured a ripper. And of course, I was late to the party as usual.
​
I turned the corner and (as shown in the photo above) saw a glimmer of gold under a blanket of dark thunderous clouds. I took a bunch of photos and then made the long walk back in the pouring rain.
​
At first I felt disappointed and upset at myself because I could have put in a better effort with planning rather than a slapped together last minute decision. The only issue is, you cannot plan a sunrise and if you did, you'd be sorely disappointed at least 50% of the time if you had been holding out for something breathtaking.
​
So I'll feel a pang of regret for a moment and then pat myself on the back for looking at the forecast which called for heavy rain at any moment, and then going anyway and trying my best.
​
In life, we can plan for some things, but there's magic in spontaneity and acting upon desire.
​
I didn't get the shot of the century but looking at the photo above, it was still worth it. 😁 Do you agree?
